Crime Spikes in Table Mountain National Park

As the weather starts to get warmer and as know from past experience,criminal activity increases along the urban edge of Table Mountain National Park.Over the past 2 weeks there were 5 separate attacks, 2 of which took place on the cycle trail network.

Newlands Forest: 2 muggings on the Contour Path, high up against the mountain. One female walker on her own was attacked and a few days later, 2 female walkers were attacked.

Rhodes Memorial: At the turnstile below the King’s Blockhouse. A male walker was attacked.We suspect the perpetrators are the same as in the Newlands Forest attacks.

The San Parks rangers are looking for 2 black males, one of them with dreadlocks.

Signal Hill: A male cyclists was robbed at knife point by 3 coloured youths. The perpetrators are known to San Parks rangers and hang around the area above the shooting range.They have been spotted there regularly.

Tafelberg Road: Please remove all valuable from your car when heading out for a hike.There are criminals observing the car parks,especially at the end of Tafelberg Road.This past weekend,4 cars were broken into.There is only one police vehicle on patrol between the lookout at Signal Hill and Devil’s Peak car park.
